A few months ago a writer for the Washington Post Express contacted me about a story about, well, my story. As in how I changed careers from working in a nonprofit organization to becoming a full-time professional photographer in just a few short years. (Of course, I was on vacation while the article came out in the paper, which is why I’m just blogging it now!)
To be honest, I can be resistant to change, and everything happened much quicker than I ever planned, but I feel very blessed to have been able to make the transition. I could not have done it without the education I received at the Washington School of Photography, and the real-world experience from my mentor Jennifer Domenick.

A few days ago I posted Amanda and Carl’s Brookside Gardens engagement session. Here are some highlights from their wedding at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, which was just a few days later. The reception hall at the church was transformed by the incredible lighting of John Farr Lighting Design and the floral designs of Growing Wild Floral Company. This wedding is a great example of how lighting can really create a mood for the reception. The blue tones blended perfectly with the jazz sounds of Night & Day.
Congrats Amanda and Carl, and thanks for having us!

Stephen, thanks for posting more beautiful pictures on the Love Life Images blog. Congratulations Amanda and Carl!
Best wishes…
Amanda and Carl had their engagement session at Brookside Gardens just a few days before their wedding, so I’m going to share their images in two parts. First up, the engagement session.

Sometimes I don’t get to meet my couples before their wedding day, which always adds a touch of intrigue when you’re pulling up to start shooting. Kari and Ryan were one of those couples but as soon as I got into Kari’s parent’s house I knew we were in for a great day (and a wild party that night)! In fact, this wedding has some of my favorite reception photos of the year. Despite another sweltering hot day, it was another fantastic wedding.

I had such a great time getting to know Lisa and Mike during our Annapolis engagement session and I was really looking forward to their wedding. They are fellow Redskins die-hards, after all. Though it was another hot day, it was a beautiful event. Rachel from Wedding Savvy did a wonderful job making sure everything went smoothly. Congrats Lisa and Mike!
