Jessica & Michael :: A Wedding at the 1840s Ballroom

I’ve seen hundreds of weddings over the last six years, so sometimes it surprises me when I’m blown away by a wedding. Each wedding I photograph is special and unique in its own ways, but sometimes everything just comes together so perfectly. Jessica’s and Michael’s wedding was one of those really memorable ones for me. The light was great at the right times, the guests were really enjoying themselves, the venue looked beautiful, the band was amazing, the toasts were funny and emotional, and there was just an incredible love that filled the room. Of course, most importantly, Jessica and Michael were having a great time and their smiles were infectious.

I loved how they worked with coordinator Lorin Kotz Kline to transform the reception area of the 1840s Ballroom. They opted to cover a mirrored wall with drapes and create a gallery-like atmosphere with various framed art and mirrors, as well as actual silhouettes of the couples’ faces, which they also used as elements for other details (the candy bar, etc.). It was such a creative way to achieve the look they wanted!

Jessica and Michael, thank you for trusting us with your special day. It was truly an honor!

Emily & Matt :: A Northern Michigan Wedding

Inn at Bay Harbor | Northern Michigan Wedding Photos

I don’t consider myself a destination wedding photographer, but every once in awhile it is really refreshing to shoot in a new location. Especially when you get to work with one of your favorite families! I’ve done a number of shoots for the appropriately-named Sweet family, and they were kind enough to bring me to Northern Michigan to photograph daughter Emily’s wedding. After photographing her brother Andrew’s wedding in Philadelphia, I knew this was going to be a fun-filled wedding weekend. (Add Matt and his friends and family to the mix and the party gets kicked up another notch or 12).

The setting was ideal… right on the water at the gorgeous Inn at Bay Harbor. The sky was clear and blue until the sun was setting and we were given some amazing clouds as a backdrop for portraits! I do love silhouettes, so it was just perfect.

Congrats Em and Matt, and thanks so much for bringing me up to shoot your special day!

Emily & Cathal :: A Reception at River Farm

Emily and Cathal celebrated a beautiful wedding earlier this month. They were married at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with reception following at the always amazing River Farm in Alexandria, VA. Much of Cathal’s family traveled from Ireland for the wedding, and one of the highlights of the evening was the Irish dances that Cathal’s nieces performed for the couple! They were quite the performers!

In addition, the food was delicious (fried chicken!), the weather was perfect and the music by DJ PGee kept everyone dancing throughout the night. I was just lucky to be there.
